On May 26, 2000, Tony Gwynn recorded his 3,084th career hit in a game against the Montreal Expos. He went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a line-drive double and one RBI, showcasing the same disciplined, opposite-field approach that defined his legendary career. Gwynn’s offensive contribution played a key role in the Padres’ 6-2 victory that day. This hit added to his ever-growing total in the exclusive 3,000-hit club—one of the highest career marks in Major League Baseball history. By reaching 3,084, Gwynn placed himself among a group of fewer than 20 players at the time to ever hit that milestone, a number that remains exceedingly rare even today.
