Description
Original double vinyl pressing of Tha Doggfather, the second studio album by Snoop Doggy Dogg, released in 1996 on Death Row Records. This copy includes both LPs in their original gatefold jacket, with a clipped upper corner—a standard industry mark denoting a “cutout” item. These copies were no longer eligible for return or full retail credit and were typically cleared from label inventory as discounted overstock or promotional stock.
Cutouts were common in the physical media era and signaled that a title had been removed from active distribution. Record stores couldn’t return them for credit, so labels would offload them through alternate channels—wholesale bins, radio promotions, or direct handout.
Despite its cutout status, Tha Doggfather is a landmark album. It marked Snoop’s first release after Dr. Dre’s departure and the death of Tupac Shakur, placing him at the center of a label—and a genre—in transition. The record leaned into G-funk and early signs of Snoop’s evolving lyrical tone, with tracks like “Doggfather,” “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head,” and “Vapors” demonstrating both reverence for funk lineage and a maturing voice.
The gatefold packaging includes full liner notes, Death Row branding, and promotional photography. As a surviving original pressing with documented industry markings, this cutout copy reflects the commercial afterlife of a major rap release in the late-’90s distribution landscape.
