Description

Presented to Antoine “DJ Yella” Carraby, this official RIAA Platinum award commemorates over one million units sold of Efil4zaggin, the final studio album from N.W.A. Released in May 1991 by Ruthless Records and distributed by Priority, the album debuted at No. 2 and soon reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart—making it the first hardcore rap release to top the U.S. mainstream album rankings.

This wide-format plaque incorporates the full Billboard Top Pop Albums chart from the June 22, 1991 issue, which officially documents Efil4zaggin in the No. 1 slot—ranked above projects from R.E.M., Paula Abdul, Michael Bolton, and Seal. The chart’s headline, “N.W.A. Takes Hardcore Rap Straight to Top of Pop Albums Chart,” underscored a defining moment in hip hop’s crossover into mainstream culture.

Produced entirely by DJ Yella and Dr. Dre following Ice Cube’s departure, the album expanded on Straight Outta Compton’s raw blueprint with more complex arrangements, darker lyrical themes, and funk-driven studio layering. Efil4zaggin not only marked the group’s commercial peak, but also their closing chapter—coming just before Dr. Dre’s exit and the founding of Death Row Records.

The framed award features silver-colored vinyl and cassette elements, a reproduction of the album’s artwork, the full Billboard chart page, and a personalized RIAA certification plate engraved for DJ Yella. His signature appears on the outer glass in black marker.

There is structural damage to the left side of the frame, and the cassette element inside is loose and partially detached. Please refer to the listing images for condition.
