Presented to Antoine “DJ Yella” Carraby, this official RIAA Platinum award commemorates over one million units sold of Efil4zaggin, the final studio album by N.W.A. Released in 1991 via Ruthless and Priority Records, the project marked a transitional moment for the group—coming after Ice Cube’s departure and ahead of Dr. Dre’s exit. In the absence of Cube, production duties fell entirely to DJ Yella and Dr. Dre, who constructed a dense, funk-layered album driven by cinematic skits, aggressive sequencing, and sharply confrontational lyrics.
Debuting at No. 2 before climbing to No. 1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, Efil4zaggin made N.W.A. the first hardcore rap act to top the U.S. album rankings. The achievement came despite minimal radio support and continued controversy over the group’s content, underlining both its loyal fanbase and the momentum N.W.A. had built from Straight Outta Compton forward.
DJ Yella’s production shaped much of the album’s post-Compton identity, helping to define the late-stage Ruthless sound and foreshadowing elements that would later appear in early Death Row releases. The project remains a capstone in N.W.A’s discography and an inflection point in West Coast hip hop.
This framed award features silver-colored vinyl and cassette representations, an inset of the original album cover, a personalized certification plate for DJ Yella, and the official RIAA hologram. His signature appears in black marker on the outer glass of the plaque.
