Description

Presented to DJ Yella, this official RIAA Platinum award commemorates the sale of more than one million units of Eazy-Duz-It, the 1988 solo debut by Eazy-E and the first full-length album released on Ruthless Records. Arriving just months after N.W.A.’s Straight Outta Compton, Eazy-Duz-It expanded the reach of the label’s sound and cemented Eazy-E’s status not only as a performer but as a defining voice in the emergence of gangsta rap.

Entirely produced by DJ Yella and Dr. Dre, the album pushed Ruthless’s sonic identity further—combining horrorcore textures, Parliament-style funk sampling, and an intentionally unpolished vocal delivery from Eazy-E. Tracks like “Eazy-Duz-It,” “Boyz-n-the-Hood (Remix),” and “We Want Eazy” built Eazy’s solo brand while further popularizing the storytelling style and confrontational tone that N.W.A. had introduced. The record also marked early writing contributions from MC Ren and The D.O.C., deepening the roster of what would become one of the most influential teams in West Coast rap history.

Eazy-Duz-It was a commercial success out of the gate and continued to sell steadily well into the '90s, eventually going multi-platinum. It’s frequently cited for its foundational role in shaping the label-forward, independently-driven business model that would influence West Coast hip hop’s rise and change the music industry’s approach to rap distribution.

The plaque includes silver-colored representations of the vinyl and cassette, a full-color album art panel, and the official RIAA certification plate personalized to DJ Yella. His signature appears on the outer glass of the framed award.
