Description

This framed beadwork piece was created by Mohawk artist Graysen Moses of Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory and features a handcrafted interpretation of the Montréal Victoire team logo.

Graysen Moses specializes in Haudenosaunee raised beadwork, a detailed and highly respected art form within many Haudenosaunee communities. His work is deeply inspired by the natural world, often incorporating floral and plant motifs that reflect the living environment surrounding us. Beadwork has long been part of his family’s history, and he comes from a lineage of beadworkers who have passed down their knowledge, techniques, and respect for the craft through generations. Carrying these teachings forward continues to guide his artistic practice.

The piece recreates the Victoire crest using size 15 beads arranged in a flat beadwork style and mounted on deer hide backing. By combining traditional materials and beadwork techniques with the iconography of Montréal’s professional women’s hockey team, the work bridges cultural artistry with contemporary sport.

Framed as a decorative wall piece, the beadwork highlights the precision and patience required for this form of craftsmanship while celebrating both Indigenous artistry and the growing legacy of women’s professional hockey.

Proceeds from the auction of this piece will support the development of a new Arts and Cultural Building in Kahnawà:ke, which will serve as a dedicated space for cultural programming, artistic expression, and community gathering.
