Used for fielding drills and pre-game reps, the SSK fungo bat reflects Tony Gwynn’s deep commitment to preparation. Unlike standard bats, fungo bats are lighter and longer, designed to help coaches—and in Gwynn’s case, players—hit grounders and fly balls with precision during training.
Preparation was more than a routine for Gwynn—it was a way of life. He famously spent hours fine-tuning his skills before each game, often arriving early to put in extra work. That discipline traced back to his childhood, when he and his brothers would tape socks into balls and take swings for hours in the yard.
