Ceremonial baseball from the 1999 MLB All-Star Game, held at Fenway Park in Boston. This midsummer classic marked Tony Gwynn’s 15th and final All-Star selection, closing out a remarkable run in which he made the team in 94 percent of the seasons he played more than 100 games.
Although he did not appear at the plate in the game itself, Gwynn’s presence was central to one of the event’s most memorable moments. Alongside Cal Ripken Jr., he helped escort fellow batting champion Ted Williams to the mound during the pregame ceremony, a meeting of generations that remains one of the most celebrated All-Star memories.
