Description
Positioned in its standard location beside the greenside bunker on the par-3 17th at Quail Hollow, this rake played an unexpected role in a pivotal moment during Jhonattan Vegas’ second round at the 2025 PGA Championship. Leading the tournament, Vegas faded his tee shot a little too far right in an effort to steer clear of the water. Instead of leaving himself a tough up-and-down, the ball struck this rake and deflected toward the hole.
The lucky bounce set up a birdie opportunity and helped Vegas hold his position atop the leaderboard heading into the final hole. Though he carded a double bogey on 18, he finished the round at 8-under and remained in contention for his first major championship. The shot, and the rake’s role in it, was captured on broadcast and widely shared — even drawing a nod of acknowledgment from Vegas as he walked past it.
The rake was in active use throughout the tournament and remained on-course during Vegas’ shot. It features a green handle and black rake head, consistent with the standard-issue equipment at Quail Hollow.
